Unicorn of a different color...

I went through an abnormally long "I want a pony" phase as a little girl. (It was probably exacerbated by the fact that one of my aunts actually owned several Chincoteague ponies and I was envious.) I still love horses, even if I don't draw them very much anymore. This picture was rendering practice as well as equine anatomy practice. I just added the horn at the last minute to make it slightly less boring.

Merry F'ing Xmas

I have to come clean and admit something: I hate Christmas. I'm also trying to work through an art block, and I decided the best way to deal with this is to draw what I love best: semi-nude menfolk. Now that I've used up my colon quota for the day, I give you Raziel, the Xmas demon.

Incubus King 2011

I decided to do a redesign of Sammael I, an incubus character of mine, to go along with my last post. I wanted to tie his new outfit to the succubus's, so I repeated the overlapping plate pattern as pauldrons. I think designing his new outfit was easier than drawing that sword.

Here was my process in drawing the weapon (which I have yet to name). I had no idea what kind of weapon I wanted; I just wanted it to be BIG. I finally decided I liked the idea of a big, blunt, squarish sword, like the uruk'hai use in the LotR movies. But I thought the final shape (no. 7) was pretty boring.

I thought it would look cool if the sword looked like it was made of (or perhaps covered by) an overgrowth of chitinous plates. And my sister has a large collection of fossil shark teeth, so I added a few of those in as well. In the end, I wanted to break up the symmetry of the blade a little, so I added the purple veins to suggest some sort of disease or sickness.

...I wish I knew more about 3D models. I'd so make this into a weapons mod for Skyim.

Succubus fashionwear

The process I went through in redesigning the outfit for a succubus character, Ista. Her previous design was, uh, not so much an outfit as a random collection of weird jewelry. I wanted her new design to be more unique, and I wanted to stay away from the cliche lingerie/bondage gear you see in so much fantasy art of succubi.

1.) I started out with a pretty boring design. I think it was supposed to be a flame-inspired halter top. Then I started watching Thor.

2.) After watching Thor on DVD, I really liked the design aesthetic they had going on. I wanted to try a more geometric outfit, with gold as the primary color.

3.) I wanted the outfit to be skimpy and not completely solid. I also didn't mind if it was completely impossible to create in real life: this is a vain, shape-shifting succubus, and if she wants a show-offy outfit, she's gonna have one. (The 2nd and 3rd designs feel faintly cyberpunk to me for some reason.)

4.) I decided I liked the look of the interlapping plates. Ta-da, final succubus swimsuit!
